Challenges with the Van

Here’s to you Uncle Mike – you requested that we not just post all the good stuff, but we have to post the bad stuff too and this has been one of our – check that – one of my more stressful events.

I drove the van behind Lenny from NC to WI because our German Foreign Exchange student, Caro, who stayed with us for a year when Paisley was 3-months old and has visited and stayed with us off and on now for over 16 years, is moving from the Twin Cities to Portland, OR where she has taken a teaching job at a German Immersion school, is using the van to transport her belongings to Portland. We are soon to take leave of the van until Anchorage, but not without some challenges.

If you recall, the check engine light came on in the van just before we left NC. We had the spark plugs replaced and it ran well with no problems until we arrived in Mackinaw City when the check engine light came back on again. We were at Rob’s Dad’s over the weekend, so we decided to let it be and drive it to Iron Mountain, MI and then have it checked out. First thing Monday morning we had somebody look at the computer code and it seemed like something minor and between Rob and the mechanic they “fixed” it. Or, so they thought….later that same day the light came on again. I tried to get the van in to be repaired in Iron Mountain to no avail. The shops were all incredibly busy, so I called the VW dealer in St. Paul and asked them about what was going on and made an appointment with them during the time we were going to be at my mom’s. They said that as long as the check engine light wasn’t blinking we would be okay. We made it to the dealer and a couple days later they let us know that we had some rather significant transmission problems that at a dealership cost WAY more than they would at the mom and pop shop on the corner, but we have a calendar full of visits with family and friends and the only way to get the van from hither and yon without leaving somebody there to babysit it is with a 36′ RV. Not exactly an easy vehicle to maneuver through a major metropolitan area like the Twin Cities, so we are paying through the nose to have the torque converter and some other valve replaced in the transmission which was significantly cheaper than having the whole transmission replaced.

People with tadalafil online canada kidney disease may suffer from problems in lovemaking but these problems have rarely been discussed or diagnosed in the conventional system of medicine as these are not considered to be problem itself. It is also called Indian sildenafil cipla. purchase cheap levitra deeprootsmag.org Penis pump components: The apparatus is essentially made up of two parts, cylinder and vacuum pump. Some other causes like stress, strain, depression, previous sexual trauma or sexual experience or because of cialis prices sex phobia. We have repeatedly considered leaving the van behind, but we still owe a bit on it and it’s the only vehicle we have at this time besides Lenny and a motorcycle and a four-wheeler, so it is not in our best interest to sell it at this time.

On July 27 Caro will bring the van to the Port of Seattle and put it on a ship to Anchorage. We will pick it up there sometime after the first of August. I look forward to seeing it – hopefully repaired and in good working order – on the other side.

  • Oh, no! what a horrid tale, a real MISadventure, if you will. So sad to learn that you’ve had such a bad surprise and hoping that Caro has free-sailing when she assumes control of the van.

It was good to hear more about your trip and we are looking forward to reports of the 4th on Bass Lake in Somerset and the visit to Grandpa Genius’ place in northern Wisconsin.

Ed’s new job is going well and he’ll soon share with you the secrets of succulent salmon and halibut!

    • Thankfully all is resolved now and Caro is in possession of the van. It seems to be running well. I’m desperately trying to get caught up with posts to where we are at today, in the Black Hills, but technology isn’t cooperating.

Congratulations to Ed on his new job!! I can’t wait to learn the tricks and tips to cooking those Alaskan standbys. Miss you!
